Garden Mulch -The Frugal Way

Mulch is any type of material that is spread over the surface of the soil as a covering. It is used to retain moisture in the soil, suppress weeds, keep the soil cool and make the garden bed look more attractive. Organic mulch also adds to the soil’s fertility, as they decompose.

When my yard need mulch I looked up prices at the garden cemter:

Play chips go for $22.75 per cubic yard

Bark is $29.25

More if you have it delivered

It’s easy to get mulch for free.

A tree service was working nearby. I asked the crew for their wood chips.truckwood chips

Ask and ye shall receive

If you need mulch don’t be shy about asking any tree service for free wood chips.

They would otherwise have to pay to dispose of them so they are happy to give them away.
